Stickley Beaver Lodge Getaway cabin is in a great convenient centered location for Winter adventures. Cabin is between Watersmeet and Marenisco (just over the Wisconsin border from Land O Lakes or Presque Isle Areas). This historic area called Stickley has the advantage of being located by lakes, trails, waterfalls and other places and activities than just by Watersmeet. Area of Western Gogebic County referred to via Michigan Tourism, etc. as 'Big Snow Country'. Beautiful area for scenic pictures and fun.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING, SKIJOURING, SKATE SKIING, SNOWSHOE TRAILS; ICE SKATING:
Sylvania Outfitters & Sylvania Area (Cross Country Skiing, SKijouring and Snowshoeing): Cross country ski trails are abundant in this area (some west and east of the cabin). Sylvania area has approximately ten groomed loops of some of the most scenic traditional cross country ski trails with exciting downhill runs. 24 kilometers of classical trails (as they call them). Integrated snowshoeing and skijouring loops. If you are planning for a group call them and they will make sure of their equipment, the grooming of the trails, etc. Snowshoeing and ski skating allowed on first four loops (per previous last information; ask for updated details for planning your trip). These trails groomed by Sylvania Outfitters. Warming room. Cross country ski and snowshoe rentals. 906-358-4766. Just East of cabin toward town of Watersmeet.
Land O Lakes Fish & Game Club Groomed Trails & Ottawa National Forest Trails: By Duck Lake, Twist Lake and Moon Lake Areas. Just south of cabin by Land O Lakes. There is a mapped location by Katherine Lake by Sylvania Wilderness. South of cabin (by Land O Lakes): From Highway 45 and County B go west County Road B to East Duck Lake Road. Then, north past Moon Lake Road. Goes to parking area on side of road (suggested to park on East side).
West of the cabin (past Marenisco toward Wakefield); Miljes. Two loops of 4.5 km each. Approximately 2 miles south of Wakefield. County Road 519. Log cabin warming hut, fun finnish signs on trail. Gentle terrain. Donations taken for the trail. 906-229-5267.
Lake Gogebic Area: Another location is by Lake Gogebic (on the west side of the lake) by the State Park. From information the three mile ski loop is not groomed. Contact State of Michigan Park Information.
ABR (West of cabin): is another cross country and ski skating area. www.abrski.com.
Afterglow: In neighboring area of Phelps. Skate, classic ski, snowshoe and fat bike trails. Fees. Open from Dec 20-Feb 28 (day light hours 9-4:30) per their information given. Call 715-545-2560.
Ice Skating: In Land O Lakes. South of cabin approximately. Ice skating rink by area town building. Past downtown to left hand side on Highway B.
Downhill skiing: Downhill skiing facilities are less than a hour’s drive to the West and to the East (great day trip from the cabin to enjoy one of your days downhill skiing or a group could do different adventures on a daily basis). These areas are by Ironwood, MI; Bessemer, MI; and Iron River, MI.
Early Winter Canoeing: Before the passages freeze. And, just when the snow starts to fall. Tune into how the people in history used the water passages many years ago as the seasons changed.
Simple sledding (tubes, plastic sleds) by cabin: Use plastic sleds (not snowmobiles), tubes, sledding sleds by the cabin (on the hill on the side of the cabin). Charcoal some food on the outside charcoal grill, have a drink and watch the snow, see the stars in the sky, go ice fishing and go to Rogers Bar (not affiliated with Rogers Bar) for some warm food and drinks (and then snuggle into the cabin with friends).
Warm up at Rogers Bar (is down the road from the cabin; not affiliated with cabin). Warm food or drinks including (but not limited to) warm stuffed pretzels, jumbo pretzels with sauces, hot chocolate drinks with whip cream. Rogers Bar use to be called the Cisco Inn. Old murials are behind the bar. The area of the cabin was called Stickley. There was an old time cabin just north of the cabin called Stickley Lodge.
